Anti-ICE Protesters Sentenced to 30 to 100 Years in Prairieland ‘Terrorism’ Case
Eight people were sentenced in federal court to between 30 and 100 years in prison over a July 4, 2025 shooting outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas — a case prosecutors called the first federal terrorism prosecution tied to “antifa.” Benjamin Song, the only defendant convicted of attempted murder for the nonfatal shooting of an Alvarado police officer, received 100 years; Maricela Rueda received 70 years; and five others convicted of material support for terrorism were sentenced to 50 years each. Prosecutors cited the defendants’ all-black clothing and use of the Signal messaging app as evidence; the sentences exceed those given to any January 6 Capitol rioter and are the first since President Trump’s September 2025 order designating antifa a domestic terrorist organization.
