Deaths of Migrants in ICE Custody Hit Record High Under Trump
Twenty-nine people have died in ICE custody since October 2025 — the start of the federal fiscal year — already surpassing the previous record of 28 set in 2004, according to government data. The pace means this fiscal year will be the deadliest for ICE detention in at least two decades, and it tracks with Austin Kocher's independent count of roughly one death every six days since the Trump administration took office.
