A Year After ICE Killed Silverio Villegas González, Federal Officials Still Release Almost Nothing

One year after an ICE officer shot Silverio Villegas González during a traffic stop in Franklin Park on September 12, 2025, minutes after he dropped his children at school, the first police report on his death is seven sentences long. It does not name the officer who fired, identify any witnesses or the FBI personnel who responded, or describe the gun. The FBI has refused to discuss its investigation, federal prosecutors declined charges without explanation, and Franklin Park police say they hold no evidence logs, use-of-force reports or scene photos. An Illinois State Police investigation opened in April 2026 is still under way, and the Cook County State’s Attorney says her office “will not hesitate to prosecute if the facts and the law support charges.” DHS maintains he tried to flee and injured an officer.
