What Happened to the 6,307 People ICE Arrested in Michigan

ICE apprehended 6,307 people in Michigan from January 2025 through early August 2026, according to a Michigan Advance analysis of ICE data obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request and processed by the Deportation Data Project. People arrested in Michigan were detained for an average of 47 days, and about three-fourths were deported or otherwise removed, including around 20% who took voluntary departure; 23% of cases remain active. More than 98% were first detained in Michigan, about half at the North Lake Processing Center in Baldwin, but only about a third had their last recorded detention site in the state, and over half were last held in Louisiana, Texas or Arizona. Of 4,779 people with a departure country listed, less than 4% were sent to a country other than their country of citizenship.
