New Tracker Shows ICE Arrests of Asian New Yorkers Up More Than 400%

Stop AAPI Hate launched the A/PI ICE Tracker on September 15, built on Deportation Data Project records obtained from ICE under FOIA and covering 35 Asian and Pacific Islander countries. In New York, average monthly arrests of AAPI immigrants rose from 24 in the comparable period under Biden to 103 between January 20, 2025 and August 6, 2026 — an increase of more than 400% — with 1,586 South and East Asian arrests recorded, more than half of the South Asians from India. Nationally the tracker counts a 436% rise in arrests of Asian immigrants, a 512% rise in detentions and an 1,103% rise in deportations, with Indian (29%) and Chinese (25%) nationals the largest shares. Twelve Asian nationals have died in ICE custody.
