Sueños DJ, husband detained by immigration agents at Midway Airport despite pending asylum case

August 6, 2026 Chicago, IL Chicago Sun-Times
Omar David Panqueva, who performed at Chicago's Sueños Music Festival in May as DJ TUNJO, and his husband Santiago Paez were surrounded and detained by federal agents on Sunday, August 2, as they stepped out of an Uber at Midway Airport to catch a flight to Washington, D.C., for a series of Karol G afterparties, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The couple, who founded the Chicago-based Latin music and community organization La Mesa Presents, both have pending asylum cases filed within required legal timeframes, according to their attorney Enrique Espinoza; DHS said it detained them for overstaying 2021 visas that expired in 2022. They are being held at detention facilities in Indiana, reportedly separated, and a GoFundMe for their legal defense raised $21,000 within days.
