ICE Hits Pause on New Detention Centers in Social Circle and Oakwood, Georgia
DHS has paused plans for two massive ICE detention facilities in Georgia — a 7,500-to-10,000-bed mega-center in Social Circle, where officials locked the water meter at the site, and a 1,600-detainee processing center in Oakwood, where the City Council voted unanimously to oppose construction. The pause is part of ICE's broader consolidation strategy, which aims to reduce from hundreds of facilities to approximately 34 large regional hubs at an estimated national cost of $38.3 billion.
