ICE Facility Inspections Plummeted as Detentions Soared in 2025 — Nationwide

POGO's investigation found that ICE dramatically reduced the number of compliance inspections at detention facilities even as the detained population expanded by 91% in 2025. The oversight bodies responsible for detention inspections — OIDO and CRCL — were both dissolved in March 2025. The result: hundreds of new and expanded facilities operating with little or no independent oversight.
