ICE Releases 78-Year-Old Ugandan Priest From Aurora After 13 Months Following Judge’s Order

October 20, 2026 Aurora, CO Colorado Newsline Detention
Rev. Edward Nalwamba, a Ugandan priest who has lived in Colorado for more than 25 years, was released from the GEO Group-run Aurora ICE facility after 13 months. Magistrate Judge Cyrus Chung ordered his release on October 19 on a second habeas petition, and two fellow detainees carried him out the next day because no wheelchair was provided. An earlier petition was denied because ICE had scheduled his deportation for June 30.
