More than 12,000 people were detained in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware in the nine months after Trump took office — nearly three times the number during Biden's final nine months — with the typical detainee transferred twice and sent over 1,200 miles total. About 36% of detainees were transferred three or more times, and voluntary departures increased 750%, as immigration attorneys say the distant transfers are designed to separate detainees from their lawyers and families.
