Philadelphia Man Married to a U.S. Citizen Arrested by ICE at San Jose Airport on Business Trip

Michael “Sandy” Sims, 42, an Irish-born lighting technician from Philadelphia who married a U.S. citizen in 2017 and whose I-130 petition was approved in March 2020, was arrested by ICE at San Jose’s airport on September 2 during a business trip, his wife says. He is held at GEO Group’s 400-bed Mesa Verde ICE Processing Center in Bakersfield. DHS says he overstayed and faces a domestic battery charge in Nevada, but neither the Inquirer nor his lawyer could find any Nevada court record. Asian Americans United estimates more than 20 people have been arrested at or while flying to Philadelphia International Airport since July 12.
