Kentucky State Basketball Player Aminata Seck Held by ICE Since August

Aminata “Amina” Seck, a 26-year-old Senegalese senior on Kentucky State University’s Division II women’s basketball team, was detained on August 7 at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport on her way to the HBCU All-Star game in New York, and has since been moved through four ICE facilities, most recently Grayson County. Her lawyer says she missed a student-visa deadline because of back surgery. DHS says a judge ordered her removed in September 2025 after she failed to appear; her habeas lawyer says she never received notice of that hearing. She has had seizures and was hospitalized as of September 23.
