The daily detention population — 65,765 as of July 11 — understates the true reach of the system. ICE’s own figures show more than 600,000 people have been booked into detention since the start of the administration’s second term, and most detained people are ultimately deported. At current rates, Kocher projects roughly 1.75 million people could pass through ICE detention by the end of the term.
