New Mexico Supreme Court Denies Attorney General’s Effort to Halt Otero County’s ICE Contract
The New Mexico Supreme Court unanimously rejected Attorney General Raúl Torrez’s bid to void Otero County’s five-year ICE detention contract with Management and Training Corp., which operates the Otero County Processing Center. The court issued a summary denial without explanation. Torrez said the state “will continue to monitor the situation to ensure compliance with the new law that becomes effective in just a few weeks” — a reference to the Immigrant Safety Act, which bans such contracts starting May 20, 2026.
