New Evidence Contradicts DHS Claim That a Woman Who Had a Stillbirth in ICE Custody Received Full Prenatal Care

The Trump administration said Iris Dayana Monterroso Lemus, 38, received “FULL medical, prenatal care” including an ultrasound and an OB-GYN visit while detained at Richwood Correctional Center in Monroe, Louisiana, where she had a stillbirth on April 29, 2025. Federal documents obtained by The Intercept describe a “pregnancy complicated by lack of PNC” — prenatal care — and show no documented OB-GYN visit before she lost fetal movement. She was given a fetal doppler, which is not an ultrasound, and said she told staff for days that she felt unwell before being transferred for emergency care.
