Medical emergencies see sharp rise at Miramar ICE facility in midst of overcrowding

Miramar Fire Rescue logged 194 emergency incidents at the ICE field office at 2805 SW 145th Ave. between July 1, 2025 and July 1, 2026, with calls accelerating sharply near the end of that period — 25 in May and 49 in June, the highest complete monthly total — according to a Miami Herald analysis of city records. Firefighters and medics were repeatedly dispatched for chest pain, breathing problems, seizures and fainting at the southwest Broward site, which historically served as an administrative check-in office but has increasingly been used to hold people for days at a time. Families say relatives held there have gone without regular medications and slept on the floor; one detainee, 53-year-old Honduran construction worker Alexander Iván Aguilar Borjas, told his wife he was held with about 150 people and denied his daily HIV medication. ICE did not respond to the Herald's questions about medical staffing or how many people are held there.
