McAllen Area Residents Push Back Against Any ICE Detention Facility in Their Community

Rio Grande Valley residents confronted McAllen city commissioners in opposition to a potential ICE detention facility after a warehouse in the city's industrial park — less than five miles from the Anzalduas International Bridge — appeared on a list of possible ICE sites that surfaced in February. City Commissioner Rudy Castillo said he would support placing the issue on the agenda after hearing from nine public speakers demanding transparency and the rejection of local resources for any facility.
