Federal Judge Orders Release of Egyptian Family of Six Held 10 Months at Dilley
U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth Chestney ruled that the more than 10-month detention of the El Gamal family — an Egyptian mother and her five children, including 5-year-old twins — at the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley violates the Constitution. The family has been held since June 2025 after the father, Mohamed Sabry Soliman, was charged in the Boulder, Colorado, attack on Jewish protesters; the mother and children have not been charged with any crime and say they had no knowledge of his actions. A further hearing is set before U.S. District Judge Fred Biery.
