ICE Seeks ‘Mobile Detention Facilities’ Run by GEO Group Subsidiary

Paperwork for ICE’s expansion in Pennsylvania, first obtained by Project Salt Box, requests “mobile detention facilities” run by GTI, GEO Group’s transportation subsidiary. The units would be used “until full” or until an operation ends, and women could not be held in them for more than 10 hours. Project Salt Box’s Michael Wriston described “a network of vans that would follow officers into the field.” On September 20, DHS signed detention construction contracts worth more than $7 billion in New York, Texas, Arizona, Florida and California.
