ICE Extends No-Bid Contract for Camp East Montana, Rejecting Calls for Closure — El Paso, TX

ICE will keep the tent facility at Fort Bliss open for at least another year, adding $776 million to Amentum Services’ initial $452 million no-bid contract — roughly $1.2 billion if the company operates the camp from March 2026 through September 2027. At least three people have died at the facility since it opened in August 2025, and a Human Rights Watch and ACLU report found staff routinely beat detainees, denied them medical care, kept them in filthy conditions and served inedible meals. “Extending Amentum’s contract while ignoring well-documented abuses is reckless,” said Angélica César of Human Rights Watch.
