A Government Accountability Office report says the administration dropped plans for an immigrant detention center at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, initially estimated to hold 1,000 to 3,000 detainees. Defense and ICE officials told the GAO they did not move forward with sites in New Jersey and Indiana after the Fort Bliss facility opened. GAO also found ICE had scaled back four of six new detention initiatives by July 2026.
