Army Pilot's Wife Released from ICE Detention; Deportation Fight Continues
Stephanie Kenny-Velasquez, 25, a Venezuelan asylum seeker and wife of U.S. Army Reserve Black Hawk pilot Chris Busby, was freed in early April after four months in Houston ICE detention. A federal judge ruled her due process rights were violated when she was detained at a routine check-in on December 5, 2025 — two days after her wedding — despite having no criminal record and an active asylum case dating to 2021. Her asylum hearing is scheduled for 2027, and her attorney is pursuing parole-in-place applications that could provide a path to permanent residency.
