Half of ICE Detainees at Brooklyn Prison Have No Criminal Record: Documents

Nearly 200 people are now detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn — New York City's only immigration detention center — and more than half have no criminal record, according to a February 2026 DHS letter obtained by Documented. Rep. Dan Goldman inspected the facility and found barriers to legal counsel, lack of medical care, and delays in producing detainees for court appearances.
