Google Maps Deleted Nearly All Reviews of ICE Detention Facilities, Study Finds

A study by Tulane University professor Muira McCammon found Google Maps had removed nearly all of roughly 1,600 reviews she collected from 26 ICE facilities in 2025, and disabled reviews entirely at 91 immigration jails — leaving only four facilities still able to receive them. Google says it suppresses reviews for “places people go without choice”; DHS denied requesting any takedowns.
