GAO Report: Nation’s Largest ICE Facility Wasted Millions and Endangered Detainees
A Government Accountability Office report found that mismanagement at Camp East Montana — the tent facility at Fort Bliss in El Paso and the nation’s largest ICE detention site — created unsafe conditions and wasted millions of taxpayer dollars. Three detainees died there in little more than six months; in one case, evidence surrounding the death of a 55-year-old Cuban man held down by guards was “missing or destroyed,” the report found.
