Wayne County Farmworker Rights Advocate Detained at ICE Check-In, Sent to Louisiana
Dolores Bustamante, 54, an undocumented apple farmworker and longtime advocate for migrant labor rights in Wayne County, was detained when she reported for a mandatory ICE check-in at 250 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo on April 22, 2026. “Ya me encarraron” — “I’m locked up” — she texted family members shortly after arriving at the appointment, which she attended over her attorney’s advice. Bustamante was moved to a county jail in Ohio that night and flown the next morning to the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana, more than 1,300 miles from her family, while she fights deportation to Mexico.
