During Operation Metro Surge, ICE arrested dozens of immigrant crime victims

At least 75 Minnesotans who had permission to live and work in the United States because they were crime victims who reported those crimes to police — protection tied to the U visa program — were detained during Operation Metro Surge, the Minnesota Reformer reported. Between December 1 and March 10, 3,571 immigrants were arrested in Minnesota and held in at least one detention facility during the operation. Many of the crime victims who sued over their detention won release and returned to their families, but they now face deportation proceedings that were initiated by those same arrests.
