Secret ICE Hold Rooms Operated Nationwide — Including 170 Undisclosed Sites

An investigation using FOIA data reveals ICE operates 170 unofficial "hold rooms" across all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories — holding over 140,000 detainees from January–October 2025. The facilities, often hidden in strip malls and office parks, are not required to have beds or toilets. Thousands of violations of the agency's own 72-hour hold limit were documented.
