Congresswoman Finds 671 People Held on Minimal or No Criminal History — Pompano Beach, FL
On an unannounced oversight visit to the Broward Transitional Center, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said she was “pleasantly” surprised by the facility’s conditions but called the detentions themselves “outrageous,” saying 671 people held there should never have been detained. “The detainees that are housed here have either no criminal history or very low-level history, like traffic stops and things that do not involve significant criminal activity,” she said, announcing new ICE oversight legislation alongside the visit.
