911 Call Reveals ICE Pepper-Sprayed 47 Detainees in Overcrowded Mesa Holding Facility
In the early-morning hours of late February, a 911 call was placed from a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement holding facility in Mesa after a man began having a seizure when agents pepper-sprayed a group of 47 detainees held together in an enclosed room. The call, obtained by the Arizona Mirror, opens with an agent reporting “an officer safety issue” and adds to a growing record of use-of-force and overcrowding complaints at ICE hold rooms across the country.
