Two More Chicago Immigration Judges Fired as Court Becomes Epicenter of Removal Orders

July 31, 2026 Chicago, IL Chicago Tribune Courts
Trump administration officials on Thursday fired two more judges at the Chicago Immigration Court, which has recently become the national leader in deportation orders. Judges Elizabeth Crites and Eva Saltzman had served on the court since 2021 and 2016, respectively; the National Association of Immigration Judges confirmed the terminations, which continue a wave of firings, resignations and buyouts among Chicago immigration judges that began in January 2025. Saltzman said she learned she had been fired in the middle of a hearing, through an email containing a three-sentence PDF.
