Third and Final Witness to the Fatal Houston ICE Shooting Released From Detention

August 30, 2026 Houston, TX The Texas Tribune Witness Detention
Victor Salgado Araujo was released from immigration detention after 54 days, nearly two months after watching an ICE agent fatally shoot his older brother, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, on July 7 in Houston's Magnolia Park neighborhood. Victor was in the passenger seat of the work van his brother was driving, making him a key eyewitness. His attorney filed several legal petitions including a federal suit claiming wrongful detention, and the government indicated it would likely approve his application for temporary legal status as a witness to a potential crime. He is the third and last of the witnesses to be freed.
