Supreme Court to Review Trump Policy of Detaining Immigrants Without Bond Hearings
The Supreme Court agreed to hear a challenge to the administration’s reading of the law to require detention without bond hearings for anyone who entered the country illegally. The challenger, Ricardo Aparecido Barbosa da Cunha, a Brazilian man who has lived in the U.S. for more than 20 years with no criminal charges, was arrested by ICE while driving to work and held in Buffalo, New York. The policy has been rejected by more than 500 district judges and nine of 11 appeals courts, according to the New York Times.
