San Antonio Leaders Move Closer to Suing to Stop ICE Detention Center on the East Side
San Antonio’s mayor and council moved closer to suing the federal government over ICE’s planned detention center on the East Side, including whether ICE did a required environmental assessment. ICE bought the 639,595-square-foot building for $66.1 million in January and plans to open next winter with up to 1,500 detainees a day; on October 8 the council voted 9-2 to direct CPS Energy and SAWS to analyze impacts.
