Revealed: ICE Forced Medical Treatment on a Hunger Striker in Detention

A document published by the ICE Health Service Corps confirmed for the first time that the second Trump administration has imposed forced medical treatment on a hunger striker in immigration detention. It discloses that an unnamed patient who began hunger striking between October and December 2025 “was subject to force feeding, hydration, or forced urinary catheterization, or involuntary blood draws,” and notes that at least seven detained people were on hunger strike in February 2026. The agency forecast $168,928.01 in fiscal-year 2026 spending tied to hunger-strike patients. Immigrant rights attorney Eunice Cho, who co-authored a 2021 report on medical complications from forced treatment in ICE custody, called the disclosure “shocking.” DHS did not answer questions about what treatment the detainee received.
