Guards blocked Rep. Dan Goldman, his staff and New York Focus reporters on September 23 from a new third-floor courtroom at 26 Federal Plaza, where about 20 people — almost all without lawyers — had immigration hearings in space managed by the Department of Homeland Security. “That’s ICE’s space,” a DHS officer told them. Goldman said it was the first time he had been barred from an immigration hearing and called the runaround “clearly intended to prevent me from exercising my statutory right to conduct oversight.” DHS and the Executive Office for Immigration Review did not respond.
