Private prisons announce $1.4 billion in revenue as immigration detentions climb
CoreCivic and GEO Group, the country's two largest private prison companies, reported a combined $1.4 billion in revenue for April through June 2026 as immigration detention nears record levels, with almost 66,000 people held. GEO Group CEO George Zoley said contracts signed in 2025 pushed the company's quarterly revenue to $732.1 million — up nearly $96 million, or 15%, over the same period last year. Those figures do not include the $1.6 billion in net proceeds CoreCivic made from the recent sale of four of its facilities to the Department of Homeland Security, which will be reflected in next quarter's results and is part of a broader strategy to meet President Trump's goal of holding 100,000 people in detention at once.
