Newark Mayor to Lift Curfew Around Delaney Hall ICE Facility: ‘Our Objective Is to Close the Building’
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said the city will lift the limited curfew it imposed around Delaney Hall, returning crowd control to city police as protests over detainee treatment continue. Baraka had set the half-mile curfew after clashes between anti-ICE and pro-ICE groups turned violent, including a fire set in the street. The city and New Jersey’s attorney general are expanding litigation against GEO Group, which operates the 1,000-bed facility, with Baraka saying “our real reason for being out here is to make sure Delaney Hall is closed.”
