ICE Contractor MVM Held a Woman and Her Infant in an O’Hare Hotel for Five Days

May 16, 2026 Rosemont, Illinois Chicago Sun-Times Contractor Misconduct
Valentina Galvis and her infant son were held for five days last June at the Sonesta Chicago O’Hare Rosemont hotel by MVM Inc., an ICE contractor, after ICE agents picked her up at Chicago’s immigration court. According to reporting by Injustice Watch and The Intercept, the room phone had been removed, private contract guards stood watch at all times, and the ICE detainee locator falsely placed Galvis more than 700 miles away in Washington, D.C. ICE’s own hotel-detention standards require detainees be told why they are being held and given unmonitored phone access — Galvis says she got neither.
