Trump Taps Former Private-Prison Executive to Run ICE

The Department of Homeland Security announced David Venturella as the next acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Venturella spent more than a decade as an executive at the private-prison company GEO Group — one of ICE’s largest detention contractors — and will now oversee the administration’s mass deportation operations and the country’s rapidly expanding immigration detention system, raising conflict-of-interest concerns from civil rights advocates.
