Rafael and Heather Alambarrio married at the Collin County Courthouse in June; seven months later they remain separated after Rafael went to a mandatory annual ICE check-in in Dallas and did not return. He was seeking asylum and waiting on a green card as the husband of a U.S. citizen. Originally from Venezuela, where he protested the Maduro government and says his life is at risk, he was detained in North Texas and later transferred to a Mississippi facility without notice.
