Mather Senior and His Mother Detained by ICE at Immigration Court Check-In

Ricardo Navarrete, an 18-year-old senior at Mather High School with a soccer scholarship to Truman College, and his mother Liliana Navarrete were detained by ICE on March 16, 2026, after arriving for what they believed was a routine asylum check-in. The family, who arrived from Colombia as asylum seekers in 2022, had an active asylum application. Since the detention, Ricardo and his mother have been moved between ICE facilities in Oklahoma, Louisiana, Ohio and Indiana, and are currently held in separate facilities in Kentucky. The school and local soccer community have organized in protest.
