Federal Judge Bars ICE From Making Arrests at Immigration Courts Nationwide
A federal judge ruled in a nationwide class-action lawsuit filed in California that the Trump administration cannot arrest immigrants at or just outside the country’s immigration courts — a tactic ICE had used to detain people the moment they showed up for their hearings. The order applies to immigration courts nationwide and is the second setback for courthouse arrests since a New York judge barred them in that city in May. Advocates say the arrests had been deterring immigrants from appearing for their own legal proceedings.
