Orlando Man Islam Aly Released After Six Months in ICE Custody at Moshannon Valley

June 24, 2026 Orlando, Florida Tampa Bay Times
Islam Aly, an Orlando resident and green-card applicant, was turned over to ICE when he returned from a government-approved trip to settle his late father’s affairs and was held for about six months at the GEO Group–run Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Pennsylvania. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease while detained but said he was not notified of the diagnosis for two months; after his attorney filed a habeas corpus petition in federal court, ICE released him on his own recognizance. “I feel lucky but also a little bit lost,” Aly said after a 31-hour train ride home to Orlando.
