With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, the role federal immigration enforcement will play at the games remains unclear. ICE’s acting director previously said the agency would be a “key part” of security, and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said mass roundups aren’t planned but arrests at matches aren’t off the table — while also threatening to halt traveler processing at airports in sanctuary host cities including Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Seattle, and San Francisco.
