ICE Releases West Hartford Restaurant Owner Seyo Cecunjanin After 12 Days in Custody
Seyo Cecunjanin, a West Hartford resident and owner of the restaurant Portobello, was released from ICE custody on July 2, 2026, twelve days after federal immigration agents arrested him in West Hartford and detained him at the Wyatt Detention Center in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Cecunjanin emigrated from Montenegro in 1997 and is seeking permanent legal status; the Department of Homeland Security said he entered on a fraudulent passport that year and was subject to a longstanding removal order. He was freed after Rep. John Larson and Sen. Richard Blumenthal publicly pressed for his release, though the circumstances of his release and what happens next with his immigration status remained unclear.
