ICE Published, Then Removed, Internal Reviews Finding Care Failures in Detainee Deaths

ICE briefly published and then removed internal reviews of 33 deaths in its custody between September 2019 and January 2026. In 27 of the 33, investigators found care fell outside safe practice limits. Of 11 reviews of deaths since January 2025, eight found care violated safe limits. The nonprofit Project Salt Box had downloaded and published the documents.
