ICE detention in Georgia grew 90% under Trump. Advocates suing for records.

Georgia held 4,556 immigrant detainees as of July 9, 2026 — the fourth-most of any U.S. state and an increase of more than 90% compared with January 2025. Asian Americans Advancing Justice–Atlanta, the ACLU of Georgia, and Project South filed a federal Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against ICE seeking records on the agency's plans to expand immigration detention in the state — including its reported interest in converting large warehouses in Social Circle and Oakwood into mass detention centers — and its use of the Atlanta ICE Field Office to detain immigrants.
