Amid Increased Scrutiny, ICE Detention and Deportation Data Goes Dark
ICE has not published its congressionally mandated semimonthly “Detention Management” report — covering arrests, detention populations, locations, and deportations — since April 9, 2026, when it held more than 60,000 people. An ICE spokesperson blamed government shutdowns. DHS meanwhile touts unverifiable totals by press release, including 2.2 million “self-deportations” with no published methodology, leaving researchers, journalists, and Congress without the data required by a 2020 reporting mandate.
