ICE Detains Son of Slain Philippine Journalist Who Fled Death Threats

ICE detained Mark Mabasa, 40, on September 21. He is the son of Philippine journalist Percival “Percy Lapid” Mabasa, killed in Metro Manila in October 2022, and came to the U.S. in 2023 after receiving death threats. He is seeking asylum, has work authorization, and is held at the Adelanto ICE Processing Center. Human Rights Watch urges his release unless the government shows lawful grounds for detention.
